Beachskin...is in?

I'm in Florida...it's raining, and I'm sitting at a doctors office. My mom is having layer upon layer removed above her eye because she has stage 3 Melanoma. She's been in some pain, but for the most part she's doing well. My dad is here too!! We've just all been hanging out at this sweet doctors office so she can have this junk removed and get better!! Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers by the way...I totally know that they're helping...I can see it :).

On a lighter note...I did get to go to the beach before the rain came with one of my besties Jackie!! Oh how I love and have missed that girl! Even though we're so different we always find something that keeps us together...PB&J's, Honeynut Cherrios, feathers in our hair, long talks...just about anything and everything that makes friends friends :) I got NINE inches cut off my hair and added two feathers!!
The feathers are together...one is purple and the other is teal!!
*Don't mind my hair being a hot mess...I am hanging out at a Dr.'s Office today!*

After getting all of my hair chopped off we spent the rest of our time at the beach and shopping. I got some sweet new workout clothes that I plan on using while hanging/working out with my gal Ash, and I've got a sweet little tan to go with it!! Love having a tan...although I am sure to put sunscreen on because I do not want Melanoma by all means...We floated in the water on floaties, road our bikes with much more stuff than needed and had a great time!!
Thanks for coming to visit Jackie!

Other than that I have been working on school stuff because this week I have finals...UGH!! Thankfully I get next week off which means, sewing and maybe some knitting...I know..I'm SUPER exciting these days!! haha...There will be a lot of working out and possibly Zumba...yes Ash, that's directed at you :). We can also get some drinks and whatnot to celebrate all of our hardwork!! Freddie and the boys are working hard at home, playing frisbee, eating lots of junk food and playing video games...they miss me for sure!! Alright...enough playing on the blog and time to get back to homework and laughing at ridiculous things that only we laugh at :) I'm off for now! Don't forget to WEAR SUNSCREEN...at least 30 SPF (believe me we talked and TALKED about that in my A&P class...30 spf is the least amount that you want to wear!!)

No phone, no internet, no tv...just silence.

I got up early today to take poor little black betty into the VW dealership because she's sick. I thought she may have just had a cold, and little did I know that she was on the verge of the plague! I have to get my window fixed (again), a new water pump and timing belt, and was going to get the third backup light fixed but found out I can do that myself. So, after the minor heart attack I had when the service woman told me with a sly smile on her face how much damage BB's sickness was going to do to my bank account I was happy to know that she would be ok after tomorrow. Well...she better be ok after tomorrow because I can't keep this up! So, Dizzle was nice enough to come get me and bring me back to my house, even though it was somewhat early (it's ok, she likes to get up at 4 AM because she thinks it's fun :) ), I find out that my tv, internet and phone are all out!!! Ok, so the tv and phone aren't that big of a deal because I had planned on working on school stuff since I am going to FL for the weekend to hang out with one of my besties (who I am super excited to see!!)...but the internet being out was not a good thing! What was I to do? I called the people who deal with our bundle package and they said, Oh no problem...there's a guy out there fixing it now and it should be back up in an hour or two...AN HOUR OR TWO!? That's a lot of time for a girl who has no car, and no entertainment at home!! Oh how wrong I was...Freddie bought me this sweet little table to set all of my sewing stuff up so I wouldn't continue to take over the dining room table, so I went into our game room, sat at my sewing table and set everything up...I threaded my machine, got all of my supplies out so I could cut my fabric that I bought last week and got to it!! I bought some fabric to make some new pillow cases for the pillows on our couch...they needed some sprucing...I cut everything and started to pin the fabric...things were going great, until I realized that I was going to be sewing a zipper to the bottom of these pillow cases...Now this may not seem like a big deal right? WRONG!! Let me reiterate what I was doing...I was sewing pillow cases (without a pattern) and I wanted to sew a zipper to the bottom of my non-patterned pillow cases (I've NEVER sewn a zipper on ANYTHING before!!) So this was kind of a big deal...I ended up sewing the zipper on just fine (kind of) and the pillow actually came out really cute (I don't know why I wouldn't think it would turn out cute...) After finishing the pillow it was 230...still no internet, phone or tv... So I decided to make another pillow case (I do plan on having 4 of them since I have 4 decorative pillows on our couches). The next one came out even better!!
The one on the left was the first one I did and the one on the right was my second one!

I took a side pic to show that I used two different fabrics on the pillow :)
Yep, I was getting fancy with it.

By the time Freddie got home from work I was done with the pillows, and they are now on our couch...I'm glad there was nothing to distract me from this today... I like the new pillow cases, and I'm super excited to make more!! Well I guess that's it for now...This crafty lady is off for now...Until next time folks!!

Sew, what did you say?!

Sewing...something that I have never really been interested in until recently. It all started 5 years ago when my mom got me a sewing machine for Christmas...I gave her the best thank you smile I could, but was thinking to myself 'what was she thinking'?! Since that Christmas day the sewing machine sat in the box it came in. Freddie and I pulled it out once to try and fix something on his uniform, and we couldn't even figure out how to thread the dang thing!! So back in the box it went, and moved from place to place with us. For whatever reason, and I think I'm going to blame pinterest (if you haven't checked that site out by the way you probably should because it's super amazing/addicting!), I have been feeling uber crafty lately. I kept seeing all of these items that I felt I could recreate, but would have to learn how to sew first. So thanks to one of the other SERE wives here who went to this cute little sewing/fabric boutique to learn to sew, I got the guts to sign up for a sewing class there as well. I was seriously nervous for my first class! One I was going to do something COMPLETELY out of my element and two I was going at it alone. Of course Freddie supported my new interest, and really wanted me to go so I could teach him what I have learned and fix his uniforms. So I took a leap of faith and went to my first class! Thankfully, it is a small class...6 ladies including myself, a cute little instructor who has a crazy passion for sewing, quilting and baking (and she likes to bring treats!) and 6 different sewing machines!! I was super excited to learn that I have a very good sewing machine (THANKS MOM!), and that it is very easy to use. So the first day of my 2 day class was learning about the sewing machine...the names of everything on it, which is very helpful, so now I can look at things online to sew and know what they're talking about! We also got to practice sewing...on paper! We practiced sewing straight lines, curved lines, pivoting in the corners and back stitching!! The second day I was a little nervous about because we were actually going to sew something, and not just use paper!! We got there, got our sewing machines set up, and out came the fabric!! We were given three pieces of precut fabric to make a pillow case! It was a struggle at first because I pinned the fabric wrong, which put me behind everyone else...so that was frustrating...plus, I like to take my time because I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to certain things...but once I caught up things were all good...Needless to say, we all finished our projects and were super excited!! I had actually sewn and made my very own pillow case!!
Here's the finished product!!
I can't believe that I did that!! So I was super pumped, and decided to sign up for another class! The next class is tomorrow, and we're learning how to read patterns and make clothing! I got to pick out the fabric that I wanted and everything! I'll post pictures of what I make at the end of the week...So, over the weekend I started looking at fabric online and found 2 projects that I want to take on!! A quilt and a jelly pillow!! The thing is though that I already got fabric to make some new pillow covers for the pillows on our couch! So I need to make those first, and then start on the other things...and all while doing my school stuff!! I think know I'm in trouble...I'm way to excited/obsessed with this new sewing ability!! That's all for me right now...I've been crafting other things, but I've gone on and on already about sewing I think that's enough about crafts for now!! I'm off to work on some school stuff, and then pillow cases!! Until next time y'all!!

Goodbye SrA...Hello SSgt!!

Soooo....FREDDIE MADE STAFF SERGEANT!!
He's SO happy!!

I am sooo happy and proud of him!! He worked very hard, and it paid off! I know that he is extremely relieved and happy as well...so I think I'm going to take my handsome SSgt out for a celebratory lunch, and then maybe we'll have a little BBQ tomorrow for him and Dittmer...Yep, Joe made it also. Two friends that have gone through so much together made Staff at the same time! It's cute :)

In other news...I've started taking sewing lessons!! I don't know where or why this little craftiness has come about, but I love it!! What's funny is I'm not the only one...Freddie is super pumped that I will soon be able to fix things on his uniforms...*sigh*...not sure I'm excited about that one, but whatever helps him I will do :). I think my first project outside of class is going to be a quilt...I've already been looking at fabrics and patterns that I want to attempt! We're sewing a pillow case tonight, and then next week we'll be sewing an outfit for a little one, and learning to read patterns :)! Uber excited...but this little crafty one is off! I've got lots to do before a busy afternoon of errand running and sewing class! Good day to all dear friends!

Trucks, drive-ins and stories oh my!

Hello All! So sorry for the delay in writing...much has been going on, and I've been procrastinating on writing here and on my homework...so guess which had to be done first?! Now that the stinky homework is out of the way for a little bit I've got time to let you all in on what's been going on over here with the Kighties...First off, everyone knows I drive a Bug...it's the cutest little thing and I just couldn't bare to part with it yet (we've been talking about upgrading to a 4 door vehicle for our 4legged children and possibly a 2 legged child in the future). So I told the hubs that I wanted to keep Black Betty, and he said ok. But since his truck was racking up the miles I told him maybe we should 'look' into getting him a new truck, which he ran with!! He was so excited, and began looking for trucks immediately!! When he finally found what he was looking for we made a trip to FL and the deal hashing began...After much debate we got the numbers we wanted and bought ourselves a truck!!

Here's the new guy now...
Freddie's in love. I was super excited because we got a new truck that has a huge back seat...get your minds out of the gutter...I was happy because the boys would have more room in the back on road trips!! Except for the fact that Freddie does NOT want to put the boys in the truck yet...he says he doesn't want to ruin the newness...I get it. I understand. But now I will be driving my sweet little Black Betty back to TX with the boys in it...which means I need to purchase a roof rack along with new tires because where am I going to put my stuff when I have to  TWO 120 lb. pups in the back!? So that's the news with that...will update more later on this subject!

On to other fun news!! Freddie took me on a date to a drive-in movie!! I was sooo excited that we found one down here! It wasn't too far away, and it was featuring a double showing!! So we went to see Captain America and Super 8. Captain America was good...just make sure if you ever go to a drive-in and you turn your car off and leave your radio on to turn your car on every 30 minutes to make sure the battery doesn't die...because mine did :) Thankfully, the people that run the place have a battery recharger thing...they came over and attached it and Black Betty started right up!! We watched the rest of the movie in the comfort of the AC.
This was our view from the car.
I could see the other screen in my mirror!!
Fun snacks for the movies!
I like to make goofy faces when I take pictures...
Freddie likes to make fun of me making faces :)
I love him for taking me on fun dates!

So after all that was over we were going through some of the stuff we took out of the old truck...and I found an old picture of Freddie and I. When I turned it over it had this story typed onto the back of it that I had written for him before I left for college and he to the military!! I couldn't believe it! But here it is...
Once there was this girl and this boy who were in love.
The girl was sad because she had to leave the boy to go to school.
And the boy was sad because he had to leave to go to the military.
But the boy and the girl saw each other as much as they could.
And then it was time for the boy to leave.
And the girl cried.
But the girl knew that if she tried hard, she would finish school in two years.
So the girl worked hard and went to visit the boy every time she could.
And then the girl graduated.
And the boy was happy.
And the boy asked the girl if she would be his forever.
And the girl said yes.
And they lived happily ever after...
With their two dogs and 4 wheelers in the snow.

Haha! So some of that story has come true so far...just not in the order I wrote it in. It's funny when you find something that you wrote so long ago...
Anyway...good day to all!
